Abstract

This study examines the development of boxing in Indonesia after the Ellyas Pical era, focusing on the participation and achievements of Indonesian boxers on the international stage post-1985. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a literature study approach, utilizing written sources, media documentation, and fight recordings as analytical materials. The study explores how Ellyas Pical, as Indonesia's first world champion, paved the way for the emergence of other notable boxers such as Nico Thomas, Muhammad Rachman, Chris John, and Daud Yordan. Additionally, the research highlights the dynamics of boxing regulations before and after 1985, as well as the symbolic significance of Ellyas Pical's fight against Khaosai Galaxy as a representation of national pride. The findings indicate that despite various challenges, Indonesian boxing experienced a significant resurgence following the Pical era, marked by achievements on the world stage and a stronger role of sports institutions in athlete development and match regulation.
